HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 32

Eulogizing the untimely death of Paul Wesley Ambrose, M.D., M.P.H., who died on September 11, 2001, a victim of the heinous acts of the terrorists, who crashed the commercial airliner into the Pentagon.

Whereas, Paul Wesley Ambrose, a native son, was the son of Sharon Ambrose, chief operating officer at St. Mary's Hospital, and Dr. Kenneth Paul Ambrose, chairman of the Sociology and Anthropology Department at Marshall University; and
Whereas, Paul was born in Charleston, West Virginia, while spending his childhood years in Huntington, West Virginia; and
Whereas, After receiving his undergraduate and medical degrees from Marshall University, he received a master's degree in public health from Harvard University; and
Whereas, He was named the Luther Terry Fellow of the Association of Teachers of Preventive Medicine just last year; and
Whereas, Afer graduating from medical school, Paul spent a year in Washington, D.C., working as National Director of Legislative Affairs for the American Medical Student Association, while also spending three years as a resident at Dartmouth College, where he formed ties with former United States Surgeon General, C. Everett Koop, resulting in his designing and administering the "C. Everett Koop Resident Physician Leadership Symposium" in 1998; and
Whereas, Paul Wesley Ambrose had recently been working in public health care policy in Washington, D.C., on projects addressing the critically important issue of obesity that currently threatens the national health and well-being while, additionally, working with the secretary of the United States Health and Human Services and Surgeon General in addressing racial and ethnic disparities in health; and
Whereas, This vibrant, articulate and talented native son, who in his short tenure of life had contributed so much toward humanity, and whose life was cut short by the senseless and cruel acts of terrorists, will be greatly missed by his family, fiancee and friends, and by the citizens of this state and nation; therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Delegates:
That regret is hereby expressed by the members of the House of Delegates of the senseless and untimely death of Paul Wesley Ambrose, M.D., M.P.H., a dedicated and civic-minded medical physician and researcher, scholar, gentleman, and vibrant personality; but above all, a man who dedicated his life to improving the lot of humanity; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to Sharon Ambrose and Dr. Kenneth Paul Ambrose, the parents of Paul Wesley Ambrose.
